7. It's bad pitch selection. Stottlemyre said so himself. Now we have to figure out why Vazquez, Weaver, Lilly, Halsey, Loiaza, Contreras, Claussen, et al. are making better pitch selections on other teams. If we can get to the bottom of that conundrum, boys and girls, I think we'll have a solution. I love the scientific method, don't you?

6. There is nothing wrong with Carl. He is pitching to his lifewtinme stats. Even with 18 wins last year he still had a career losing record. What is so confusing about the way he is pitching.

5. Cliff, I appreciate your indepth comment on Carl's struggles. I have to admit that I hate thinking that his struggles are due to "intangibles" which cannot be easily solved.

4. you know, sometimes I just get a little tired of the rationalizing around why a certain Yankee is undeperforming in pinstripes. Enough!

We should have paid attention when Red Sox fans kept on repeating the "he's only had one winning season in his career" mantra when the Yankee FO signed Pavano. Perhaps we should have stopped listening to the hype around this "young stud" and looked closely at his career.

Guys, Pavano is just another in the long line of over-hyped "Newest Yankees" who is failing in pinstripes. I've just about had it with the Jose Contreras, Kevin Browns, Kenny Loftons, Javy Jazquezs, Rondell Whites and YES, Carl Pavanos of the world. Every single year we witness this, and then the Yanks are eventually forced to eat big contracts and admit their mistakes.

Until Carl strings together 4 or 5 staight stellar outings against good teams I have ZERO confidence in him as a playoff pitcher...that is IF we even makes the playoffs.

Right now, the 2005 Yankees are this year's version "Mussina and Wang, then pray for the weather forecast to be Wrong!"

2. Anyone think he had friends and family in the stands for Game 4 of the 2003 World Series? Yes, it was in FLA. But, people can travel, etc. And, FWIW, Pavano was far from jittery that night.

That said, there could be something else in NY, that's not on the road, that impacts him. Maybe it's his girl friend making him to tired and/or stress while he's in NY? Maybe that impacts his ability to focus?

Maybe it's something in his prep? Maybe he needs to warm up, sit, and then warm up again - as if he's starting the bottom of the 1st instead of the top of the 1st?

Or, maybe he's just an embedded Red Sox?

1. If he were jittery because he's home, wouldn't it be the case that his first starts would have been awful, not start out good, then go bad? Maybe he's gotten gunshy, thinking he doesn't have a competent third base glove behind him. But then he'd be bad on the road, too. It could just be that on the slot machine of Yankee pitching, most of them have come up with lemons at the same time.
