bruce - i always love these card corner pieces! especially this one, as i have a baseball buddy in atlanta who's an old Tigers fan. we talk of the "original a-rod" quite often. thanks for so much more insight on the player and the man!

i'm actually at my parents in NY now and will scour part of my card collection to see if i have the one pictured in this post. i don't recognize it, but i have a goodly amount of '81 Topps cards and i was still really young then, so it may be in a shoe box here in the attic. i'm pretty sure i have a later card of his - i thought it was as late as '84 Topps and i was remembering it was either Yanks or Tiggers, but i'm probably mistaken. i think it listed him as 1B-3B or utility or something.

i don't really remember watching him play or as a yankee, but am glad to know he was such a good defender. i remember watching a young orlando cabrera throw from SS when he was an Expo and i was still pretty new to Atlanta. then Furcal came along. holy crap, that little guy has a frickin' cannon!

yeah, if we had won in '81, "A-Rod," probably would've at least made it to the video screen at the Yankee Stadium closing ceremonies...
