hey, old friend Tim “Rock” Raines just signed a 2-year deal as manager for the Newark Bears of the Independent Atlantic League. i’m sure he’ll have a different style than Foli! man, i hope the BBWAA wises up and elects him to the Hall!!!

Regarding Foli’s managerial style, I can’t determine anything from Foli’s season managing the Zephyrs in 2005. But I suppose we will find out soon enough.

I love the story about Crazy Horse in the minors…he made three errors in one game and then went out to the field that night, with his glove and a record player and slept at second base.

Raf, great point about Martin and Foli. Billy would have loved a player like Foli–fiery, aggressive, and a pain in the rear end to umpires. Foli’s ability to bunt and play the hit-and-run would also have been attractive to Martin. In a way, it’s kind of sad that Foli never played for Martin.

I wonder if Foli manages like Billy. I guess Syracuse will find out soon.

I guess given Foli’s ways, he fit in with the Yankees of the time.

I don’t know how much power Martin wielded @ the time (Berra was named Mgr after Foli was acquired), but I can see Billy wanting a guy like Foli on the team.
