Oh, man, I hadn't realized that Cashman was seriously going after A.J. Burnett. That's ruined my day.

I insist you all STOP these Matsui-trade ideas! As we all know, Cashman and Hank are regular Banter lurkers (I still suspect willamny23 is really Cashman in disguise, just can't get the evidence!)..if Matsui goes then so do the 80 televised Yankee games I get on tv here...I can't spend 2009 watching Matsui play for the Nationals or Rangers!!

Cameron..i like it for one or two years. Surely that's enough seasoning time for Jackson??

From PeteAbe:
The on-again, off-again deal is back on with the Brewers agreeing to take Melky Cabrera in return for Cameron. The question is whether the Yankees do the deal straight up and get no money in return or include a second-tier pitching prospect) and get some cash back.

One year of Cameron at $10m for Melky's career.
So much for the youth movement.
It shows Cashman is committed to winning this year.

In an ESPN poll with 24,000 votes:
71% of voters thought CC is worth $161m
31% of votes said (tied) Santana and CC are the best SP in MLB. Doc at 19%
Who will win the AL East: Boston (42%), Yankees(39%)

@6

Let's see Holliday hit outside of Coors. Even then, let's see the cost.

Personally, I'd rather see one of this year's available OF bats who would come at half the contract and the same offense.

Holliday, like Teixeira, is over-rated. Neither are top-3 at their positions so it makes no sense to pay them like they're among the best in the game. They're firmly in the very good, but not great, category. And they're both past peak.

[4] Agreed.
I would certainly trade Matsui + $3m if it's doable.
I don't want to trade JD, but I would if it means Tex.

If we don't get Tex, we will spend similar (althought not equal) money/term next year on Holliday or someone of that ilk. But there are not a lot of studs available next year.
So, in Cashman's mind, is it Tex or Holliday?

Tex is only 3 points higher in career OPS+.
How good a fielder is Holliday? Compared to Tex?
Holliday is good for 10 more SBs/yr then Tex.
Holliday's HOME OPS is .260 higher then his AWAY OPS.
Tex's HOME OPS is .100 higher then his AWAY OPS.

Group questionS:
Can Matsui be moved? And how much salary do we have to eat?
Can JD be moved? And how much salary do we have to eat?
In terms of overall impact, how does Tex compare to Holliday?

Of course, this assumes we can get Holliday.

@4

We were talking earlier about trading Matsui to free up a spot for Dunn (or Manny)

From the video, Cliff is really all in on Teixeira. I don't get it. He's not Pujols or Giambi, even. And it's not like there isn't other offense out there. Dunn approximates Teixeira's bat for pennies on the dollar. Heck, even re-sign Giambi for a year or two. He just said he'll take a discount.

Then there's Burrell, Manny, and Bradley.

Let another team drop $200 million on this generation's Will Clark (who never topped 150 OPS+ after age 28 but did so four times beforehand. Teixeira's only done it twice.)

@1

I'd be happy to do a spot from my mother's basement.

Has anyone considered a salary-dump trade of Damon or Matsui to make room for Teixeira (with Swisher then moving to left)? Then Tex only add about $10 million to the 2009 payroll while providing an anchor in the lineup for the next 7-8 years.

Of course, I'd rather trade Nady, but that doesn't take care of the payroll issue.

[1] I for one vote for Sliced Bread. It would just be so fitting, even though he'd be a tough act to follow (badum-tschh >;)
