[17] too many things can go wrong w/ V-Drums, as well. same deal w/ bad cords, the brain not working, something short-circuiting. the hardware doesn't seem as sturdy. yes, there are definitely pluses to the electronic kits, i just can't stand 'em...

oh, double pedals RULE!!! i loathe playing on kit w/ 2 separate bass drums. i never do it. puts the hi-hat to far away. double pedals kick ass! off course, you then need a drop clutch for the hi-hat and they don't make 'em the way i like anymore. i like the switch to be vertical and they're all horizontal now.

i'm sure this thread is toast and you'll never see this, but what the hey... : )

[16] I'm not really a big fan, but there are some advantages. As a kid, I lugged around a double bass set to jams. After like 2 hours of hauling and setup, someone would break a G string... or a cord would be bad... or a borrowed amp couldn't be gotten, and there goes the jam. Lots of frustration. Plus I lived in an Apt. for a while. Really sweet when ya can't make a lot of noise.

As a pro, I would never use them... and I can 'hear' the delay in my Rolands. But man... they are easy to lug around!

Derek Lowe only wants to pitch on a contender, but he wants some serious coin too

So you eliminate the two teams that just played in the World Series... and then?

Why don't we just contract all the small market teams and force their fans to choose the closest big market team in their region? For all the flak the Yankees take for spending ridiculous amounts of money on free agents, you have to remember that the agents are asking for the sky because a handful of teams say yes to them (and guess what? It's not just the Yankees!) Of course, you have to throw away the AL pennant-winning Rays (like the Marlins always do right after winning the WS), but that's the type of bullshyt that quite a few teams have established and then blame the fat kid for.

[5] The unanimous selection will never happen because there seem to be a few dimwits who uphold the sacred honor of such a selection. Of course, if everyone felt the same way, all candidates would fall off the ballot in their first year after getting no votes.

I would love to see the following rule added to the HoF selection process: If someone omits a candidate who receives over 90-95% of the vote in their first year, they lose their vote for at least 5 years.

[4] There would be some kind of poetic justice and irony if Rickey were to be a unanimous selection. He should be, but it will never ever happen with him. MAYBE Maddux, but I would take the under on him.

h/t to Joe Posnanski for this list, but you're damn right about the walks JL:

1. Rickey Henderson, 2,129 walks
2. Babe Ruth, 2,062 walks
3. Red [sic - Joe made the typo I kept it] Williams, 1,935 walks
4. Barry Bonds, 1,870 walks
5. Joe Morgan, 1,789 walks
6. Mel Ott, 1,708
7. Yaz, 1,655
8. Mickey Mantle, 1,607
9. Eddie Yost, 1,599
10. Lou Gehrig, 1,508

This is the all-time UNINTENTIONAL walks list, and Rickey rules it as he should.

Is there anyone who seriously questions Rickey's credentials as a first-ballot, inner-circle Hall of Famer? If not him, then who? (Or whom?)

Bill James used to say that you could split Rickey in half and have two legitimate HOFers.

There's a lot of resentment about Barry Bonds's HR record, but his BB record offends me more. At least he had to hit the HRs; the walks were just handed to him. Rickey had to work for them, because pitchers sure as hell didn't want to put him on first base on purpose.

By 1989 the Yankees felt his skills had begun to fade. Unable to complete a new three-year deal, they sent him back to Oakland for three players on June 21 of that year.

Where he showed that he was anything but washed up, coming up big down the stretch for the A's, and driving the Jays batty in the playoffs.

I was hoping that maybe he would come back that year, but it was not to be, as he signed a contract extension with the A's.

1989 was just an awful year for the Yanks. No Winnie, no Willie, no pitching, Pags & Rickey traded during the season...

Joe Girardi reminded me a bit of Dallas Green WRT attitude and approach. Girardi wasn't as abrasive tho'.

But as for Rickey skills fading, he would be productive until his age 40 season, some 10 years after he was traded back to the A's. And still retained his batting eye until his last season in the bigs. Didn't do much else; didn't hit much, and when he did, it was with little power.
