My Dad's favorite place is O'Neal's, too. I don't know how much he went to it when it was The Ginger Man, but he remembers the old place. He knows Mike O'Neal fairly well, too.

I think the place makes him feel at home, now that he's retired. He likes to entertain guests there. He has a tab and everything.

Leave it to you, Alex to access places in my brain which lie dorment. I remember The Ginger Man well as it was one of my parents' pre-cultural evening jaunts. They preferrred it over O'Neal's Balloon.

Both The Ginger Man and O'Neals had great burgers, but I loved the atmosphere of The Ginger Man more. Very NY. They knew their regulars and we felt at home there. I even snuck a glass of under age wine from time to time.

As for The Apthorp, words can't describe being in what was then, a rent-controlled apt. that was over 5,000 sq. ft. I used to babysit in that building and would dream of one day living there. Now, that Lev Leviev owns it and want to charge $13,000,000 for an apt., my dream had been squashed.

But, I dig it.
