[3] We disagree on the relevance of the event, but to label Kay's attitude ethnocentric is very irresponsible. I don't think I've read anything on Banter more off base than this submission.

Calculus and Wall street confuse me. If Yadier and others hold playing for their country in higher regard than playing for MLB or in the World Series, then so be it. WW's reference to Endy Chavez's quote satisfies any "confusion" I might have on this matter. Which I don't. Ah, just a couple more weeks.

[2] There need not be a contradiction. One can certainly express general admiration for the Latin players enthusiasm for the WBC and yet still be confused when a player would express greater enthusiasm for the WBC than for the WS.

Well, frankly I don't understand why anyone would find their performance in a fabricated "classic" with a tradition that dates all the way back to 2006 more important than their performance in the championship series of the highest level of play in the sport in the world.

If that makes me ethnocentric, so be it.

The WBC managed to entertain me this year inasmuch as it fill up the gap between the end of football season and the start of the MLB regular season. Otherwise, I can't wait for it--and attendant non-stores like this--to go away as fast as possible.

I used to get high marks in reading comprehension but I don't quite get this. It says above that Michael Kay lauds the enthusiasm of the Latin players, then has a quote where he dismisses it. So he gave a thumbs up .... then a thumbs down? The story contains nothing about this contradiction. What was the original instance where Kay lauded their enthusiasm and seriousness? I get that he is dismissive about Molina's quote. I just don't get the other part.

you wrote a whole article on michael kay being surprised that molina is more excited about the wbc than the world series? i can't stand kay any more than anyone, but cut the guy a break. ethnocentric? that seems a little harsh.
