Also, two other things that have changed:

1) You no longer see either YS coming northbound on the Major Deegan because the new Gateway Center is blocking the view.

2) At least one new park has been built. Behind what was the park/handball courts on Ruppert Place is a brand new synthetic turf field on the site of the old parking lot that used to sit between the exit way off the MDB and Jerome Avenue. The park looked very nice and seemed to be well populated.

Opening Day is always special (new ball park or old; good team or bad). My first Opening Day was probably around 1989 or 1990 and probably have been to about 10 since. The most memorable was probably the Andy Pettitte snow game. I also was at the epic 4hr 1998 opener versus the A's, after which I hopped on the subway, jumped on NJ Transit and then SEPTA to see the Phillies open up against the Braves. It was Maddux vs. Schilling and I think the game ended in under 2 hrs.

Yeah, I generally like to wait until the warmer weather and I don't know why I never happened to make an opening day but there it is. Yeah, it should be a blast. Let's hope the Yanks are 7-2 by the time they get home.

Alex,

Wow, you've never been to a season opener? I went to opening day two or three years in a row, back in the early 90s when tickets were much easier to get. You'll have a blast!

Mlb.tv is really pushing it..after waiting 30mins for it to load up, I clicked on the Cubs-Yanks exhibition game..and got an episode of the Joe Girardi Show w/ M.Kay (bad enough) and then fast forwarded through..to Game 5 of the 2004 ALCS!! WTF?!?!?!?!?!?

Can't wait for Opening Day. This spring training has gone on too long. Unfortunately I'll know the outcome when getting up Tuesday morning here but who cares, got the beer and chips ready, Mariano photo windexed on the wall, Reggie jersey washed and pressed!
