This one, to me, was a biggie. Good idea, but do it the old fashioned way. Did he think no one was looking. He looked non chalant. And then the half-assed run down. I drove 11 hours round trip to Cooperstown for the opening of the Aaron exhibit. Best player of the second fifty years of the twentieth century. It was a disaster. Didn't get to see the ribbon cutting or Barthelme's or Aaron's remarks even though I was in the front row behind the important people and the media. The geniuses who run the Hall had a video feed on a screen smaller than the one in my living room. Stood in line for one hour to insure I would see him and 1/2 hour for the show and never saw anything except the back of people's heads. My friend and I spent the night in Cooperstown, expecting to see Hank and the show. Tickets sold out. Records room closed. Lots of empty walls. Saw three innings of a high school game at Doubleday and did some research in the library. Exhibit didn't open until 1:00. We had to leave by 12:00 to get back to Vermont by 5:00. Bummer. And I had to ride in a car with three Bo Sox fans. First team to give up 15 or more three times in first 17 games.
