[2] Hush, you, MattPat.

Had to pop back in on Ol Hoss's birthday (been a busy week). How do some game threads stall in upper 100s and some go past 500? What was so compelling about last night's that took it to that level of posting?

Loved the phrasing here of Joba's leap being both athletic and hilarious. Images of a cannonball at a swimming pool shot into my head. But he got the job(a) done, big time. Maybe killed a few midges on the landing, too. Revenge is a dish best served ... flattened?

I'd be very surprised if positioning Jeter better in the field involved overcoming resistance or something like that. That sort of comment feels way too grudging. It is possible we're scouting better this year, or that this is just routine for him and NY, and small sample size etc. I do agree that 2-3 balls over the middle have been elegantly played.

A day late and a neuron short, OYF, I do hear you on Holliday. I have to wonder though if he'll get to free agency or if Billy B deals him first. What sort of contract does he have? And do we want to trade young talent. I don't think so. I agree he is a legit target off season FA, especially in a depressed market.

Man is Strasburg good, in 109 innings he had only 19 BBs and 195 strikeouts! Who has first pick this year? Yikes.

By all means, don't re-sign Matsui, but:

Last 7: .375 .474 .875
Last 14: .297 .366 .622

That looks like a decent DH, even

Last 28: .243 .317 .527

is average. He'll make it through the season or they'll get someone to platoon with him (e.g. Shelly Duncan).

Scott Podsednik, who is having a typically awful year, already has six extra base hits in a month and would have been on pace for 36 if he played all 162.

>Nine seems unbelievable.

I'm a Matsui fan - one of the few Yankee acquisitions in recent-ish years I've been 100% sold on - but I won't be surprised if he breaks down completely before the Yanks even have a chance to part ways with him. He just seems like he's on his last legs physically.
