Very optimistic.

Judging by the season thus far, I”m glad they signed Pettitte and didn’t have Joba and Hughes in the rotation. Just thinking about that combo gives me flashbacks to ’08.

Andy was signed to be a fifth starter, and that is what he is giving them … (and I still think he is better than 80% of the fifth starters on other contending teams)

I agree with [6] which is why, after they (foolishly) signed AJ to a five year contract, I didn’t want them to re-sign Pettitte.

[7] Who’s the last good setup reliever that Cashman obtained through a trade?

Robertson and Melancon can fill the role if they are shown patience.

[2] Yes, but the prevailing meme with Pettitte is that, despite the horrendous WHIP, the gopher balss, and high pitch counts, he’s a gutsy battler. So, unless he suffers a couple of those less than 2 inning, 10 run jobs, I don’t see Hughes taking his turn. After all, this is THE Andy Pettitte we’re talking about. Wish it weren’t so but…

Hughes in the bullpen: I wouldn’t be surprised if Emma’s hunch turns out right (namely, that Hughes replaces Pettitte before much longer). Andy has been flirting with disaster all season. If he hits two games in a row where he can’t wiggle out of trouble, it could be Hughes’ chance.
