[4] [5] With the right stone, and some fresh ingredients, making your own pizza isn’t hard either. A friend of mine does it, and they are fantastic and look very easy. The key, he says, is a good bakery with good bread dough – do they have those down in NC?

Some good pizza places out here in MA, though surprisingly many of them are Greek, not Italian. If one prefers thick crust Italian/Sicilian pizza, as I do, that’s very hard to find out this way.

I grew up in Westchester, lived in Manhattan… now I’m over in Chapel Hill. Check out Z-Pizza in Cary. Not what you grew up with, but really freakin’ good and worth the detour.

As for bagels, on the other hand, we’re just screwed down here. I’ve learned how to make my own.

Dear NY/NJ pizzeria owners: Please move to North Carolina. Open up a store and make me believe that good pizza exists again. There is exactly one above-average pizza place in Durham, NC. The second best pizza place: Pizza Hut. Ugh. Don’t tell my parents, but half of the reason I go home to NJ is to get good pizza every once and again…

man, you’ve done it to me again! i’ll be salivating over pizza until i can have it again Wed night. i’m having a bowl of cereal right now and have dinner plans tonight – with an old teacher of mine who’s in town from NY.

that pie, looks FABULOUS!!! my stomach doesn’t really care for pizza in the AM though. well, if you look at my comment in the last post, you’ll see that none of my being really cares for the AM, haha! ‘less, of course, it’s past midnight AM, we’re speaking of. : )
