(Similar to criticism that Wade Boggs heard in Boston.) He may have also thought that Gwynn received preferential treatment in San Diego. Pags was one of the few Padres who didn't cater to Gwynn, so there were problems between the two. And when Pags didn't hit for the Padres, it became an easy decision to let him go as a free agent.
