[4] when I think of Pavano, I combine several dog tragedies from my youth into one story. Pavano is the dog I found lost in the woods when I was 10, desperate for a new friend, having just moved to a new neighborhood. My parents said, yes, I could keep Pavano. I got some nails and lumber from my dad, and built a nice sturdy dog house for Pavano. My sister loaned me a few bucks to buy Pavano a leash, collar and bowls to eat and drink from, and to get him shots at the vet. Hopeful and joyous about my new friend, I gave Pavano a home, and what did he do? Dog ran away , and got hit by a car.. or did he hit the car? We'll never know. The important thing is Pavano didn't die. He limped and sulked around my backyard for a couple of years. I got a job after school to cover his vet bills. I tried to make Pavano healthy and happy again. Eventually, Pavano stopped limping and sulking. One day, I opened the gate and Pavano bolted. I cried "Pavano! Pavano! Come back!" Pavano didn't stop running. He didnt come back. Damn dog kept running. Last I heard he'd found a new dog house in Minneapolis.

Half way thru Barra's piece I had the thought that it would be kinda cool if this artist did something on Reggie's 3 hr performance. Reading on, wasn't the least bit surprised to see Mr. October already commissioned his immortalization.

[3] i have to say for me personally cp is irrelevant.
he basically got money for nothing, and i don't care for him or his time in the bx, but i can't get that worked up about him - i think for me he is just like one of those loser boyfriends (or girlfriend for others) that you are just happy you broke up with but you really never think about unless someone else brings him up.
now, i can completely see why others feel differently, but that is where i am with cp.

Hm, so, we are in the dubious position of rooting for Carl Pavano to pitch a great game tonight, huh? Kind of sticks in the craw.

It kind of sucks that my only memory of watching Willie Mays play was when he could barely remain on his feet as he played the OF for the Mets. Fortunately, there is film of his younger days.
