If the Tigers wind up advancing, Verlander would not be available on full rest until Friday. If the Yankees choose ALDS A, that would allow Verlander to still pitch two games on full rest. However, if they pick ALDS B, Verlander would have to start one game on short rest.

No, that’s not right. In either type of series, Verlander could pitch on Friday 10/9 and then again on 10/14. Both would be on full rest, and in each case it would be Game Two and Game Five.

Griffey has 3 homers in his last 3 games. who knows if tomorrow is his last game, not. outside of essentially being a pinch hitter for seattle next year, there’s really no fit for him. tampa would be the only logical place and they’re stuck with Pat the Bat for another year. i guess, maybe Texas. andruw jones will be gone. crazy that he’ll become a 1B/DH, if anything…no more center field.

the DH market will be pretty ripe, and Matsui and Thome will certainly be on there, amongst quite a bit of others…

if Junior gets 3 AB’s tomorrow, he’ll reach 10,000. if he plays next season, he’ll reach 1,200 XBH, 1,700 Runs and 2,800 Hits. he should fall short of 550 doubles, 1,900 RBI and Willie Mays (660 homers). his OPS should remain over .900.

regardless of anything, he will ALWAYS have the prettiest, most perfect and most incredibly beautiful swing of all time!!!

I completely stopped paying attention to the game after the Yankees got their hit (right away, obviously) and eventually turned it off totally in favor of the Tigers.

Michael Kay is worse than ever in meaningless games, and I just can’t even have him as background noise anymore just repeating himself over and over and over again. If I hear “fresh and sharp” one more time I’ll start throwing things.

[9] At this point, Torre’s making up for lost time (i.e. Braves, Mets, Cards), so it’s a wash, but good for him. I appreciate Joe for what he’s done and I hope he’ll be welcome again someday at Yankee Stadium and honored appropriately, but thankfully it feels like a long time since he was here. I don’t know if half the guys on the 25 would be playing much, if at all, if he were still piloting the team.

Alex, if you really want to know how the average Tiger fan must feel right now, ask the nearest Mutts fan; they can tell you all about it in their sleep.

I dunno, guys, I’m not raring to call out anyone just yet. It’s disappointing that the team is losing these games going in; I don’t know if they’re coasting or not, but I always felt even the little victories mean something, and losing is draining (if not to the players, then to the fans) no matter how “meaningless” the games are. I’m not saying they should risk their starters getting hurt, but fer chrissake, play with a little, what is the word, pride?

[3] Having to play the Cardinals seems like the consolation prize, not the reward for finishing first. Pujols/Holliday and Carpenter/Wainwright are the two most potent combos on both sides in the NL. With Hamels still not pitching well and the bullpen in disarray, the Phillies would seem to be the easier opponent. Of course, with De La Rosa likely out for the NLDS, the Rockies might not stand much of a chance anyway.
