[1304] I thought that batting Posada 5th was a huge impact in this game. Matsui seemed to struggle tonight and it is as if Girardi anticipated that. It must be a matchup thing though I haven’t looked at his numbers against Kazmir for example. But Posada was hitting and patient from the get go and the Angels really had no choice but to pitch to A-rod. It helped that Tex and Damon got on base some too.

[1333] He is a position player…those guys usually hand around when they are taken out of the game. Also, it’s the post season. You’d think he be interested to watch the 9th inning. I don’t really think it’s a big deal, but it is still hard to believe that Manny wasn’t even watching the game as his team was suffering a massive playoff loss.

[1332] Right, but if you start Molina it’s because you think he is providing value somewhere else. Having Cervelli in the game late would really serve no purpose.

I am heavily leaning toward playing Posada. If Cano and Swisher continue to struggle, the bottom of lineup would be pretty ugly with Molina.

I probably agree. Of course in the current arrangement, in a close game we have a hitter worse than Cervelli having to bat (Molina).

[1326] Ah…I didn’t realize we were working off a premise that wasn’t reality. Because Matsui IS swinging the bat well, I would not consider DHing Posada. And, even if he wasn’t, I still wouldn’t want to end up in a close game with Cervelli having to bat. What’s more, Matsui can be very streaky, so I’d still want to take the chance that he would turn it around.

[1317] Of course, the most sensible thing would be to keep on of the three or four best hitters on the team right now (Posada) in the lineup, and tell AJ to deal with it. And, after the off-day, the BP will be thoroughly rested, so you could have a very short leash with AJ should he burst into tears when bounces a pitch past Po instead of Molina.
