[1577] It's just a matter of pointing down to third. It's my theory, and it's not one expect many to get behind, but I will say that I noted the exact same sequence of events when it happened earlier in the year. But as Posada is wont to do, he helped make up for it with the double in the 9th. I'll never like the guy and I'll never like the way he plays defense, but I am fully aware that his bat will be greatly missed when it's gone.

[1577] Hear Hear! Jorge Po's offense far, FAR outweighs any defensive shortcomings. He's a HOFer, one of the top 15 catchers of all time..and rising. Look at the O at age 37? Ridiculous!

Time to split, finally..one more win..we can do it!

I think that, with the team a win from winning the whole thing, perhaps maybe we can all lay off Posada a little. I mean, we know he's is not a good defender, and he can be frustrating in variety of ways (don't get me started about his base running). At the same time, it seems like now he gets blamed for every mistake that any pitcher makes, every time a pither misses his spot, every time he supposedly threw the "wrong pitch", every ball that supposedly wasn't "framed" properly, every non-appeal (do we know he did not ask for an appeal? does the home plate umpire have to grant an appeal?); meanwhile he gets no credit when pitchers pitch well, and he has been remarkably durable for a catcher, especially at his age. Tonight he was even accused---not ironically---of intentionally making an out to "prove a point" (?!?), and was deemed the worst player of the series (Melky? Robbie?).

The relentless, shrill criticism of him by some Banterers is beginning to remind me of all the bitching about Jeter after last season, when he was all but declared dead. I don't think some of us truly appreciate how valuable he has been, not just this season, but for year. We sometimes seem to forget just how valuable it is having his offensive production at catcher.

When Posada (with all of his bone-headedness) and Jeter are gone, those are going to be two huge offensive holes to fill.

[1575] i thought they should have asked for an appeal because it was very close to a swing. but i don't think that's an excuse for joba. he still misses his location by a foot. but, like hughes last night, i thought joba actually looked pretty good. at least they're both throwing strikes.

[1573] Thanks. I hope I have everything covered. Cat bites are scary stuff.

[1574] They can, but the problem is that a younger pitcher is never going to appeal when the older catcher (Posada) doesn't. And I think in his rhythm he's expecting the point, than either an out or a denial and THEN set for the next pitch - I think it going straight to the next pitch (and it's almost like Posada just saying "just throw the next pitch") - can throw a young pitcher off.

Most of all, just do the damn point down for the appeal. If I'm a pitcher, it makes me feel like you have my back.

[1570] the pitcher can request an appeal, too, can't he?

Also.. appears the Hinske replacing Floyd example proves the point. Interesting.

I guess if AJ was more of a short thing - having a team need to win two at the Stadium, facing AJ and CC seems very imposing, and there's the whole putting AJ's start against Lee instead of putting it against someone else,,, I just love the idea of chance to win Game 5, with the hammer of our two guys back at our stadium in wait, as opposed to the toss up of Game 5 and having them think that if they get past that, the next step - facing a short rest Pettitte isn't that imposing...

[1569] That's the risk, but I guess I just don't see it as "fouling up" the games, at least not necessarily. I think that AJ can pitch one game on short rest with little or no risk. Pettitte is more of a concern, but he'll be on a super short leash. As such, I'd still rather have five innings of Pettitte on short rest than Gaudin starting for the first time in a month.

Ok, insane angry thought that was forgiven but occasioned a lot of shouting before Damon and A Rod and then Jorge making good, but I've expressed before how much it pisses me off when Jorge doesn't point down for the appeal and it happened again immediately before the Feliz homer. He did it to Joba earlier in the year, and I complained about it, and I really think it can throw a pitcher like Joba off. You could see Joba wanted Jorge to appeal the check swing right before the home run pitch, and Jorge didn't do a thing.

I think it may have messed up Joba's rhythm just that much and helped cause the home run pitch.

I know it sounds very particular, but I noticed it before, and mentioned it before, and if I were a pitcher, it would drive me nuts.

[1560] My fear was more that you're choosing to foul up two games (5 and 6) instead of just one, with the one that you're fouling up coming against their strongest pitcher.

I definitely understand going for the kill, but the thing I hated most about Torre in 2004 was how badly he managed to wield the cudgel that was the flexibility of the lead. I always like to wield an advantage instead of playing like it doesn't exist.

Wow - bizarre interruption - girl upstairs returned from a trip with her cat's tail trapped in the velcro of the cat bag. I ultimately managed to help get the tail free, but the cat bit the crap out of my hand and my knuckle swelled up. Soap, water, neosporin, and as a doctor's son, I have some avelox (moxifloxacin) in the house, and I took a dosage. Don't want to go to the emergency room, so hoping that's enough...

[1560] well i agree with you, but i do think you have to consider the opponent. since game 7 is sabathia on short rest no matter what, if you really think lee is going to pitch as well as he did i game 1, then it might be smarter to have a rested pitcher for game 6 than an old pitcher on short rest. but for whatever reason, i trust aj more against lee tomorrow (maybe because i think he actually does like short rest, maybe because he'll feel less pressure going against lee with the team up 3-1) than against pedro in game 6.

I'm not sure about that- Hinske was a sub for Tampa last year for Cliff Floyd in the Series, and the Yanks subbed in Villone for Clemens in 07 during the DS. Unless the rule changed again.

[1557] i was just thinkin' that. ya know, after his torrid start when joining the phils, he did get roughed up a coupla times. i think the bravos got to him once and maybe the muts. i even wanna say he gave up like 9 earnies one time out. if that's the case, i wouldn't be surprised if 2 or 3 were inherited runners the bullpen allowed, but still.

i think we can get to him. i guess we'll find out!

GO AJ!!! GO YANKS!!!
