One storyline I wonder about: Jeter and A-Rod. it seems like they're now in the respected teammates category and they each have their own niche on the team. But are bygones really gone?

For the record, I spend way too much time on Baseball Reference and so forth, which is why I am familiar with that Posada tidbit. For instance, check this out: I noticed a couple years back that Mike Piazza had hit a triple with every team he had played for. It only stuck out to me because he had managed to hit one during his week or so on the Florida Marlins (yet he did not hit a home run with them). So I followed the box scores all season long that year and he managed to hit one with San Diego, and then he was able to do it with Oakland to complete the trick.

So for his career, he played for 5 teams, 3 of which were for a year or less (and only 5 games with Florida!). In his career, he only managed to hit 8 triples. Yet he somehow hit one with every team he played for. And with all of his homers, he did not hit a home run for every team he suited up for. What are the odds?

[13] Jorge was on the team in 1996 but not the playoff roster, so he got one. Funny thing is he made the playoff roster in 1995 after one regular season, and appeared in a playoff game as I believe a pinch runner!

No reason for the Yanks to report that Mariano was hurt and lose any possible tactical advantage they had. Plus, I probably would have died, as I was already a nervous wreck. I almost lost it when I saw him holding that heating pad in the pen, but decided to go with McAsshole's explanation that it was chilly and other pitchers were using them as well.

[0] The headlock the Red Sox have had the Yankees in since 2004 is gone. The Sox had their best decade since WWI and still place second to the Yanks.

THAT'S what I'm talking about. Eff you, Francesa, if you wanna say the RS are the team of the decade. Polesmoker.

Pettitte, Posada, Rivera and Jeter: five times dope.

werd

[7] Joe G does need one more ring to pass Torre though. He’ll get it.

I don't get it, Big Dan... Didn't Torre go 4-2in the WS with the Yankees? Unless you didn't mean pass him in PS success, literally,

[10] wow. I totally remember that interview. What a f'n demigod! And props to the org for not publicizing it all over tarnation (if only for our sanity).

[10] Now we will get Tyler Kepner whining again about how Girardi is dishonest about injuries. Couldn't he, as a Yankees' beat writer, at least try to hide his disdain for the team?

"The Sox had their best decade since WWI and still place second to the Yanks"

just cannot stop thinking about it.

The Yanks were the team of the decade and somehow it feels like a bittersweet period of time... Could it be that the losses were truly heartbreaking and left some deep scars (2001, 2004)?; that the level of play and success during the regular season did not translate to the playoffs and it all came crashing down too early, too soon and without any warning (2002, 2005, 2006)? that when they got there, they were too physically and emotionally tired to show up after Game 4 of the WS in 2003...

Definitely an exciting decade for a yankee fan but I'm left with a feeling that they could have accomplished more given the hand that they were dealt.

Its very difficult to win a Championship

By the way, I gotta say I dig Hal. He treated Kay with contempt and it was funny as hell. The family made the right call. Hal is a better face and has a better temperament. Funny though that Hank felt the need to stress that A-Rod was worth the money.

Joe G does need one more ring to pass Torre though. He'll get it.

Nice indeed. So glad to be rid of some of those story lines. Honestly, I can't decide which I'm happiest to be rid of.

Torre has been insufferable. Now that he's seen how valuable he was, hopefully he STFU. Glad Girardi doesn't have that shadow either. He's on his own and it helps that he's a very good manager and easily better than Torre. I kinda wish he'd stick with #27 though. How ballsy was that? I wonder how he even dreamed it up. Keep the number and say my balls are steel. Fuck off haters.

A-Rod also makes me very happy. He works his butt off and now has the hardware. Also helps that he's doing it in an Era of greater scrutiny. His legacy is exactly what's left. It will be interesting to see how his HR chase is treated.

And I can't believe there was ever talk of an Ortiz Curse. So funny now in hindsight. I'm not a fan of the new park, but at least they broke it in in one fell swoop.
