[0] whoa… I rented The Long Goodbye last night via iTunes and watched it for the first time. I only did because of your reference and praise to it in your Coen Bros. memoir, Alex. Which, btw, is fucking awesome. I’ve read that over and over.

I really enjoyed that movie. Popeye is the only other Alman flick I’ve ever seen. I’m excited to watch a few more. Thanks for the tip on the bio, too.

[10] I’m a Cassavetes fan as well, but his films can be tough going. However, he grew up in my hometown, so I’m partial to him. It was kinda thrilling as a teenager to know he’d grown up here.

I like “McCabe & Mrs. Miller” but ultimately think Robert Altman is very over-rated. If we’re looking at the 70s I’m a John Cassvetes man.

I love all the ones Alex cited, and Gosford Park too, but I need to also point out the brilliance of California Split. I also really enjoyed Secret Honor, but I haven’t seen it in years.

I never really GOT “Nashville” but I think thats a generational thing more than anything, I respect it…I just didn’t enjoy it all that much.

“Short Cuts” on the other hand, is brilliant and flawless. And also has naked Julianne Moore…before she was naked in “Boogie Nights”….which was before she was naked in “Lebowski”. Come to think of it, has a respected actress disrobed more than Julianne Moore?
