[9] ah, cool – thanks, man. yeah, my LLC is gonna be about a half-step up from that, haha! my accountant is gonna set something up for me for free. it will be legally binding, but at my low level of business, mostly for show. either way, it’ll be good.

my dream is to one day tour the world as a clinician (along with doing masterclasses). i have enough material charted for a full series of educational books and a good idea for an instructional dvd. if i ever get to do any of that, along with my solo percussion release(s), i think the LLC will help me out a bit.

if not, i’m a-gonna hone my craft just the same! : )

[8] DBA stands for doing business as. I think it's the simplest form of incorporating oneself. LLC would be more inclusive, methinks. I've done neither, so I'm probably not the best to reference it all. Actually, I just looked up DBA on wikipedia, and there it says that "A DBA filing carries no legal weight in instances where a trademark would be necessary".

yes, grandparents are the greatest!!! i was incredibly close to my mom’s parents. actually my love for them and our relationship is indescribable. next week will be my first turkey day w/out my grandpa; the following week will be my first birthday w/out him. i can’t think about it right now, too busy packing for my upcoming move…

i hear ya. i do know people in the biz, but i doubt anyone would be able to help w/ this portion. what’s a DBA? i am setting up a little LLC – record label/publishing company sorta thing for my solo cd…

[4] Grandparents are the bomb. My PopPop used to say “wallop” instead of “wallet”. Cracked me up every single time.

[5 - 6] I don’t know how to get it out there. I would guess step one would be to create a DBA as a publishing company. Then peddle your music around as much as possible, etc. Having connections in the business would probably help more than anything else, but a strong network of people who feel strongly about your music is almost as powerful.

[1] ya know, i’d really like to learn how to actually get my music to folks like that, to use in a library database for such occasions. i’ve been told a ton of times that my weird compositions would be good for movies (usually underground “B” movies, haha!), video games, circus de soleil, etc. etc.

there are a lot of sections that could be looped for video games, etc. i think you get small publishing checks every time it’s used and perhaps credit. either way, i’d be honored to get my music out there in this fashion.

you know how to do that? maybe Alex Belth knows a thing or three about it from his film days? Chyll Will? Dvorak? Beuller? Karim Garcia???

What a great article, man. fuck, I can’t wait to get this DVD for my and my son to enjoy over and over again. He’s a lucky kid to have his first memorable WS win at 5 years old. I had to wait until I was 20.

Laureano knows his role: he’s editing Game 3 of the World Series. It’s a job that requires him to dig through hours of visual and audio footage — all for an 8-10 minute piece.

Since he has a limited amount of time in which to accentuate his game’s storylines, Laureano knows he must capture the viewer’s attention from the opening moment.

“I prefer a dramatic piece of music, something cinematic [to open my game],” Laureano says. “I like to use a lot of strings and xylophones and marimbas. A soothing, anticipating type of music.”
