[19] Like you said, it's free agency or bust. They should be able to get at least one max player in 2010 and, at worst, get a second in 2011, when if iirc, Chris Paul will be a FA. BUT, Walsh has to draft better.

[18] I just don't get it. Are they hoping they can get Stern to declare a state of emergency in New York and the Garden a disaster area? Cuz, we don't need Stern for that...

Oh, Isiah gave the pick to Phoenix in the Marbury trade and they sent it to Utah, but the Knicks had the option to give Utah (through Phoenix) the 2009 pick instead of the 2010 pick.

But he didn’t draft Jennings, and he did give next year’s pick to Utah… unless that’s sarcasm.

Right. I would have rather have kept the 2010 pick.

I agree with the rest of your post.

[15] Or Isiah gave Utah the pick when he got Marbury. Either way, the Knicks are hanging on a string.

And though Walsh was dealt a bad hand, he hasn't done much with it except create cap room. His personnel choices leave a lot to be desired; so much you have to wonder if he still works for Indiana and is trying to undermine the Knicks from inside.

But you know what? People will consider it a major success if he does manage to sign Lebron, a qualified success if it's Wade and Bosh. That's all he's really got at this point, because if he can't get any of them, Then they're screwed; I can't imagine anyone wanting to come to the Knicks unless it's their very last chance in the NBA.

Walsh has not done a good job, but in fairness, he has been dealt a very poor hand. The biggest mistake the Knicks have made in recent years was to win a few games at the end of the season, thereby killing their chances of getting a top five pick. Rather than draft Jennings, he should have given the pick to Utah, which I said at the time of the draft.

[10] i'll second all that chyll.
first donnie walsh really didn't do shit in indiana - a few good pieces fell to him because other teams wanted to get rid of them (artest, o'neal, s jackson) and when he started to rebuild after the brawl he was headed down a disastrous course.
also his plan her was all his eggs in one basket and he didn't even do it right. he had the opportunity to trade jeffries and didn't last year and not drafting jennings was criminal - he is perfect for d'antoni's offense and as a pg next to lebron.
yeah and his misleading mark jackson was a very shitty maneuver.

anyway - enough thought on the knicks for one night.
i hope some hot stove happenings start happening soon after thanksgiving.

[8] Yo Jazz, I've never really bought into the idea that Walsh would save the Knicks for two reasons:

A.) James Dolan still owns and runs the team

B.) Walsh led Mark Jackson on to believe he would be hired as head coach; so much so that Jackson quit his TV gig ready to jump in, then Walsh breaks off and hires D'Antoni, knowing the man doesn't believe in such trivial matters as defense and thought until recently that Nate Robinson was the sixth man-version of Magic Johnson.

Then they refuse to sign Iverson because, and I don't care what they tell the press, they're afraid he'll create more of a circus that Marbury ever did. Like they have anything tro lose at this point. Do they honestly believe LeBron or Wade or even Bosh would look at this and think that it's an attractive situation to buy into? You're an organization a year away from trying to get these guys and your plan is to what, drop dead halfway through each game so you can get more chances at a top lottery pick that's not even yours because it was traded away three years ago. Oh, and choose marginal draft picks and play them from five to twenty minutes a game so you can develop them as what, bench players for next year? All the while charging near, if not the highest average ticket prices in the league and consistently overstating the attendance by a rediculous margin?

Yet, we tell each other Walsh is doing a good job because so far, he's gotten rid of a bunch of bad contracts. No, that was his job, plain and simple; clean up after the antichrist that was Isiah Thomas. So far, he's only gotten a quarter of the way with his job, and he gets a big fat minus for D'Antoni and his No-D-Is Good-D philosophy; if no one's noticed, the Knicks don't have Steve Nash, Amare Stoudmire, Shawn Marion or Joe Johnson on the roster, they have a bunch of out-of-shape stiffs who wouldn't be a six on the Grizzlies; yet the Grizzlies' former six could not fit in their short-term plans because he would have interfered in the Knicks' ten-minute drills with their young players.

Long story short, nah, I don't think the Knicks are in good hands and not even Allstate can save them. In fact, I think Lebron would be a greedy fool to come to this organization next year. Is it any wonder that the Knicks completely whiffed on all the free agents they actually wanted this year? Do you actually believe they planned to go with what they have all along? That's a good one... >;)

Twice during the game, Phil Simms commented that there was a question as to whether the Patriots would rebound mentally from last week's loss. I think he's the only person on the planet who thought that was a question.

That's all I have to say about that game, really.

So...everyone watching the finale of "Curb Your Enthusiasm" tonight? Love that show, been a great season.

Into the second week of the Fukuoka Sumo Tournament here in Japan, here's a look Estonian wrestler "Baruto" against Mongolian "Kakuryu" (them scary foreigners are taking over our national sport! :) The bouts are short in Sumo but all the surrounding pageantry make it a totally fascinating thing to watch live.
