If you're a fan of Vermeer you've probably already read it, but I highly recommend the novel "The Girl With The Pearl Earing" It gives great insight into the master's work and technique as well as the 17th century Dutch class system.

[1] Nah, he wouldda done the one who looked like she was sleeping; she looked like she was ready for an action hero like Tiger...

"When the world is looking dark and blue,
Try a little schmear of Vermeer!
If circumstances have you down a bit,
Johan will keep you very sunlit..."

(...and it just goes downhill from there, folks >;)

Johannes... that's the problem with submitting sometimes, you can't make any corrections or take-backs like you can on FB. Oh well, it's there for all posterity (and posterior as the case may be...)
