never have tasted a doughnut before. they don't look the slightest bit appealing to me.

Doughnuts are great, Thel. It's like a fresh loaf of bread with sugar that's fried and dipped in whatever topping you want the same way ice cream is; or injected with jelly or cream. When I was a kid, my Mom would always stop at the Ossining Bakery and pick up fresh doughnuts covered with glaze, my favorite at the time (before I discovered CHOCOLATE FROSTED!!!) along with a huge roll of Portuguese bread; I got a kick out of watching them feed it through the slicer, then Mom would hand me a long, thin slice to munch on while we rode home. Back then, Dunkin Donuts was anathema in our household. With all the choice bakeries there were in our reach, why would you deal with such phoniness? Of course, that was before Dunkin Donuts became the ubiquity it is today. They tasted funnier back then than even now, believe it or not.

Man, I would recommend you start with something small and simple, like a glazed (straight melted sugar), then branch out. I guarantee you'd like them. of course, the drawback is that they tend to have some of the emptiest of calories; if you're watching your weight, one is enough. For you, I would avoid the cake-like donuts until I tried the lighter ones; that may be one reason they seem so unappealing. The cakey doughnuts are heavy and hard to handle without a beverage. Just like cake, hmm...

Man, I love donuts like it was my job. I don't eat them often for obvious reasons, but I will have to check this place out. Thanks, AB.

The thing you have to love about donuts is that they have NO redeeming value nutrionally -- I mean, fried dough and refined sugar? However, they're just delicious. Even bad donuts are usually good.

Alex, thanks for mentioning this place. I showed my wife and she freaked out; she has been craving one of the square jobs since we saw this place on Guy Fieri's show about five months ago.

I was in California and I'm now marooned in Oklahoma, but there are a few Yankees fans here. (Most everyone else is into the Cardinals, which is cool with me. They're polite.) The Mrs. has been loath to do anything related to baseball online, but she likes Bronx Banter and this edition of Taster's Cherce has sealed the deal.

[5] thanks chyll, but i'm sorry to report that that just doesn't sound appetizing to me! i love bread, but don't care for the fried, sugar, jelly or cream part. and i don't really dig toppings on ice cream. i'm cool w/ chocolate & peanut butter!

as long as i never reach 150 lbs weight-wise, i'll be somewhat okay! : )

7) Cool! Well, keep coming back and tell the Mrs. I'll try and keep hipping her to some fun food stuff. This is really more of a NYC lifestyle blog than it is strictly a Yankees blog.
