[11] To increase the team's density, a simple expedient is to keep the volume low.

[14] Rangers, centaurs. This isn't a Tolkien blog. Though come to think of it, there's this from Emma:

The veiling shadow that glowers in the East takes shape. The Yankees will suffer no rival. From the summit their eyes watch ceaselessly. But they are not so mighty yet that they are above fear. Doubt ever gnaws at them… the Yankees fear you – they fear what you may become. And so they will strike hard and fast at the world of men.

The power of the enemy is growing. They sense the Ring is close… you know this – you have foreseen it. In the gathering dark, the will of the Ring grows strong. It works hard now to find its way back into the hands of men – men, who are so easily seduced by its power. It is close now, so close to achieving its goal. For the Yankees will have dominion over all life on this Earth, even unto the ending of the world.

[7] wow. I didn't think the myth had spread beyond the Yankee blogs, let alone to a MLB broadcast in Texas.

Thanks for the assortment of links ... It's helpful when you weren't able to watch the game.

I hope this hot streak continues as long as possible and the Sox cold streak too. If the Yanks get up enough on them, even when the streak ends they ought to be able to stay in the driver's seat. Of course we'll have to see what happens with the Rays, but right now I can't see the Red Sox going on some ungodly hot streak to catch up if they get far enough behind. Their lineup just doesn't seem capable, - though maybe their pitching could?

[6] it's amazing to me how many writers and fans still think of A Rod as human. Clearly, he's a mythological beast.

Good pernt about not toppling the karmic apple cart. We start gloating, and next thing you know, we got applesauce on our fine Puma Clydes.

[3] I was watching the Rangers broadcast over the weekend (as I usually do the next morning after a game), and Josh Lewin was relaying the story as if it was a given fact that Arod commissioned pictures of himself as a cantaur. Of all the road team announcers, Lewin is my least favorite. Not only is his voice mousy, but he also projects himself as a real weenie (really the perfect word for him).

[4] More than his stuff, Joba's poise on the mound was good to see. There was no shaking off and walking off the mound...he got the sign and threw the pitch.

[3] The centaur jokes will never get old, lol. All you missed was his "galloping" around the bases.

It's too early in the season to worry about jinxes, but I'm just gonna sit back and watch these games and try not to upset the karma too much. No bragging, no smack talking, not poking fun at Mets fans in the office. Just gonna enjoy the ride while it lasts.

Not much noted: Joba was dominating, fastball touching 96, diving slider.

I wish I'd got to see Edwar and Chad get their rings.

I did get to see Vazquez escape from the 2nd & 3rd with no outs and not give up a run.

Far too early in the season to use a word like destiny. . .
