[13] It scared me then, it scares me now!

Don't forget the great WABC-7 4:30 Movie, too! Those theme weeks were killer - Planet of the Apes week, Mothra week, Gamera week, The Great Escape broken up over two afternoons, et al. A huge part of my childhood.

Boy o boy do I ever fondly remember Million Dollar Movie. The same movie every night on Channel 9 at the same time from Monday through Friday and then, if I correctly recall, three times each on Saturday and Sunday.
Who can ever forget some all-time classics such as the U.S. version of Godzilla, which, after having finally watched the original version, Gojira, without Raymond Burr, I can honestly say that, contrary to all noted critical opinion, I actually prefer?
Only one little note - somehow I remember the Million Dollar Movie opening to be different than the clip presented here. Is my memory going bad (note: I still explicitly remember the critical details of he Yankee-Tiger game I attended on Friday, September 1, 1961, so I'm not completely lost)?

[8] That's a good point - Nixon actually governed as a fairly progressive Republican while in the White House. What passes for the GOP these days would be aghast at some of his domestic plans (and of course, detente). But Nixon is a gigantic can of worms we probably shouldn't open right now.

[6] Thanks! It's worth your time, for sure, especially if you're a big fan of either Chayefsky or Scott.

I flat out barrelled into John Lindsay when I was a young thing while he was mayor. I guess the security detail in those days was fairly lax. He did have an entourage who looked at me bemusedly. I was star struck (and this coming from a home of staunch democrats).

Then again, Lindsay was prbably more liberal than the average democrat these days.

There have been a lot of artciles about the decay of NYC in the '70s, one recently by David Brooks and the other by John Podhoretz (disclosure:I went to school with him). The were focussed on the Upper West Side cowboy lawless days when you couldn't even walk to Columbus Avenue let alone Amsterdam.

I did like Network and I'm going to give The Hospital a gander when I have more than my two cents to put in.

Thanks for the new post. Like it!

Very good critique; it's worth looking at from your analysis because you devoted much of it to the story's theme. If the technical issues were more prevalent, I'm sure you would have given them more light as those can make or break even a good script.

And I think that line's gonna work it's way into the Banter lexicon somehow >;)

Great stuff, Matt, welcome. I haven't seen this movie in years and don't think I ever saw it all the way through. My Dad did give me an authographed picture of John Lindsay when I was a kid though and I didn't know what the hell to do with it because Koch was the mayor by then.

I'm not a Paddy C, fan, though, again back to my dad, he loved him. Although NETWORK is prescient in some ways, especially about Reality TV, I always thought that was an overbaked, and overrated satire. But I seem to be in the minority there...P.Kael aside. LOL
