That mugshot of Stroud is downright creepy. Kinda makes my skin crawl. Kinda makes you understand what that “fellow inmate” was saying at the end of your piece. (shiver)

Lancaster and Frankenheimer had a pretty fruitful collaboration – this film, Seven Days in May, The Train and The Gypsy Moths.

I’ve never seen The Train but I hear good things about it.

In fact, if you can put aside the degree to which it whitewashes the actual Stroud and botches the facts, it’s a wonderful film.
Substitute “John Nash” and you could be referring to “A Beautiful Mind” exactly. It is a tough call how much a movie needs to get facts straight. It really is a personal choice but I’d say for the victims of the character being “whitewashed” those movies are hard to stomach.

To what degree do you think a film about a true story needs to get the facts straight?

I think the first goal has got to be to make an entertaining movie, but if in that process you end up turning a psychopath into a hero (or anti-hero) why not just change the name and blur the line enough to distance yourself from the source?
