Good piece. I like Common. Always seemed a little full of his own take on things, but he's also always growing and seeking out new stuff.

Nice! Chicago-based rapper. His second lp, Ressurection (1994) is his best, at least sonically. He was still an immature guy and I'm sure he's grown a lot since, but his subsequent records never moved me like this one. Good-looking guy. I thought he was humble in this little piece. Good stuff.

I went to see Hustle and Flow down in Kips Bay when it came out. Common sat right behind us - we were both really into it and we even discussed it a little.

Only I had no idea who he was, so I just figured he was a regular guy, albeit wearing some fairly intense get up. But the couple I was with contained my hippest friend and she knew who he was and after she told me gleefully, "That was Common!"

Only I had literally never even heard of the guy, so I thought she was describing something or someone as common. A 5 minute abbott and costello routine ensued.
