[2] I remember mine! It was a triple in my first ab! And my parents weren't able to come to the game but mom arranged for her father to come, which was really special because I didn't see very much of him at all. I remember to this day the proud way he said, "Yup, he hit a three-bagger!"

Beautiful, Hank, thanks!
As the father of a little leaguer, it really strikes a deep chord.

Praise Jesus for baseball.

What a great write up Hank. Field of Dreams is what it was for Curtis last night, and you reminded us all of how important dreams are...especially when they come true.

Hank, I somehow missed this posting this morning (I guess I was caught up in soccermania). I loved that moment too, and your write-up is just perfect.

Thanks, an inspiration to read. It was magic seeing Curtis' family react in the stands, and the look on his face told it all. Another reason why we watch and follow this game for eight long months of the year. The other sports may an intensity of competition that is momentarily exciting, but baseball is so much more, and we all know and feel it. I am preaching to the choir.

It is also very pleasant to be reminded of "This Magic Moment", no matter if you prefer the Drifters orignal or the Jay and the Americans cover.

"...and then it happened, it took me by surprise..."

I’ve never been on the field in these moments, so I always wonder how it is that everyone on both sides immediately knows that the ball needs to be saved, but they always do.

I would think they'd check the scoreboard, sometimes they announce a player's 1st ML hit

A real beauty Hank.

I love that Arod was the first to hug Curtis. Arod really reminds me of the best player in my little league. He was heads better than any of us, and wasn't the nicest guy in the world, vain, tough, bullying. But when you played well and had a big moment, he was the first guy there to give a hug. The game meant so much to him.

Baseball is one of the few sports where the players often still act like kids, whether it is their first hit or just some of the goofy things they do in the dugout between at-bats. Anybody who played pickup games as a kid can identify with those moments. MLB has managed to keep that sense of child-play even after the steroids and zillion dollar salaries, which is one reason why it remains the best game of all.

Hank, you captured that perfectly. Well done, and thanks for starting my day off with a smile and even a slight lump in the throat.

Good show, Hank.
I don't remember my first little league hit, but I recall even through high school, every hit felt like the first one. The proud thrill of standing safely on base never gets old.
