[5] Thanks, I think I am confusing the payroll heist from the Killers (Lancaster again) w/ the racetrack heist of the The Killing.

A few years ago, I would have found this troubling. But now that I sleep only 3 or 4 hours a night, I can just find it sad.

[7] Isn’t is it funny? I somehow deleted most of my post which went from Sterling Hayden in this to Sterling Hayden in Dr Strangelove. So yeah I’m talking about Dr Strangelove there … Oops!

What I was saying was essentially that I’ve only seen Hayden in these two movies (I think), that he’s really good in both, then that he and George C Scott are actually both really great in Dr Strangelove, but the show belongs to one man, etc

This is one of the best movies ever. It’s interesting to me that an immortal director like Kubrick should have his greatest success mainly due to a collaborator – Peter Sellers. The credit is at least half his.

How many comedies stand up like this one over time? There’s almost nothing that seems dated in it. It’s pretty incredible in that sense.

[2] Nah, the voice-over is pretty matter of fact and not a news/radio account. Also, it’s not one long crane take. As for Eyes Wide Shut, I was planning on writing about it, but Alex asked me to tackle The Killing, so I said “Eh, what’s the difference?”

Doesn’t the heist play out w/ a voice over sensationally describing the heist. And the voice over is actually the newspaper or radio news account of the crime? I thought that was really nifty, and probably a pretty fresh idea at the time.

For some reason I thought you were doing Eyes Wide Shut and my friend who’s a big Kubrick fan, and staunch defender of Eyes Wide Shut, was looking forward to your take. Can you boil it down in the comment section?

There is a nice urgency about the way Kubrick filmed this movie. I really enjoy it, for all of the reasons you mentioned, Matt. Good write-up. Oh, and Sterling Hayden RULES.
