[234] the fences at dodger stadium were deeper in the old days by about 20 feet, though i think they actualy moved the fences in rather than move home plate up. Interestingly, when they remodeled Yankee stadium, they moved the plate closer to the fences and then added more seating around the infield. Thus the distances to the fence were shortened but there was still more or less the same distance behind home pelt to the backstop.
