Fewer crossovers as well. Toaster was unique because it encompassed several baseball blogs on one site that constantly cross-referenced each other in the posts and the comments. Now we're grown up and have flown the coop, but as we all realize it's not so easy being a grown-up. But We've gotten used to it. Cliff's departure sure brings that to perspective, even as it is or the best of reasons to go, it's another change we have to accept and take time to adjust to.

I'll admit I was ready to fade out; I was beginning to think the comments were becoming too shrill and condescending, or maybe it was me. But there's a dedicated bunch here I've gotten used to reading every day and I couldn't let you guys down like that (even if that would mean zilch), so I'm here for better or for worse. I might have relayed a similar sentiment when I first signed in... meh, maybe one day someone will make me an offer I can't refuse either >;)

[203] A very belated thanks for acknowledging the rationality in my desperate desire to punch Sutcliffe in his stupid face.

[268] Evil, I loved the post. You have no idea how much glee I took from the mental image you created. I've hated Miller for a long time, but I wasn't certain he was irredeemably awful - last Sunday night, though? He was a horrifying embarrassment from pillar to post. Good for him that he has that great announcer's voice, but doing no work before a game and saying idiotic crap for nine innings is inexcusable.

[383] He is definitely a guy it feels good to root for.

In the words of George Costanza, "I'm bursting! I'm bursting!"

Man, am I happy right now.

[385] Yeah. Well, to be honest, I've felt that many of the game threads have been less vigorous this season. A couple weeks ago, for reasons I don't recall, I found myself reading through a few old game threads back on the Toaster version of Bronx Banter: damn, those were intense: massive debates, lots of statistics, and some goddamn funny running commentary. And they were long, too.

A lot of the posters were the same. I don't know, maybe we've all mellowed, or run out of things to type, or gotten older and don't want to waste three hours every night online. Or maybe after the Yankees won the WS last season, all that built up frustration over Cashman or Torre or Cairo or Andy Phillips or David Ortiz or whatever finally deflated. Or maybe it's just my imagination.

In any case, tonight reminded me of a good, old fashioned Banter evening.

A great game and great game thread: sarcasm, despair, joy, second guessing managers, second guessing general managers, running jokes, statistics. It was all there. It's why I love following the Banter while following the game.

Btw, as someone who finds overreaction and drama-queening exceedingly tiresome, I have to own up to possibly overreacting just a tad on Berkman.

That guy is starting to come around. His walk was an awesome at bat.

Also, this may have been mentioned (off to read the end of the thread, as I went banter free for the whole 9th), but Thames' monster shot scared the crap out of Francisco. It didn't pay off, but that guy didn't want to throw a strike after Thames crushed that one.

[379] From his first pitch HR as a Yankee Rookie in 2002, and tonight, Marcus Thames is forever linked to Yankees lore. Just keep his left field defense time to a minimum.

You could wait all season to get the opportunity to recap a game like this one.

Yes! Yes! Yes! Fuck YES!!!!!!

Could be the best win of the season.

That was one of the more exciting games I can remember. Pure, utter happiness - that's what was going on in this living room, as A Rod's throw sailed across the diamond and into Swisher's mitt.

I said to myself before the bottom of the 9th, "please, any which way, I don't care, just please somehow get through this."

Thanks be to MO.

Interesting comment from Thames: He said he was going to look for a breaking ball off Ogando, but Arod told him to look for the heater.

Say what you want about Arod, but he really is one of the smartest, most involved players in the game.
