[211] I'm not suggesting he called it, I'm suggesting his "I'm Joe Maddon and I never blink" BS is behind his unhesitating endorsement.

I dislike him the same way I dislike Scioscia. You didn't reinvent the game just because they gave you a bunch of guys who throw high 90's and a lineup with nothing but guys who can beat you. Those Angels teams that tormented us were stacked. I never felt it was Scioscia beating us, but the stacked lineup, team speed, and nasty bullpen that took all those games.

While getting thrown out at 3rd with 2 outs is a cardinal sin, that doesn't mean you never try. It means you only try when the odds are heavily... HEAVILY in your favor. And frankly, after watching that play 3 times, it's a near miracle that we threw him out. I'm guessing Carl makes that 95 times out of 100, maybe more.... and that justifies the play.

And did anyone notice the pick-up by ARod? It was more then a sort hop, but less then an inbetween hop. It was a tough play, and I think ARod was very surprised at the outcome. A very nice pick.

[208] Crawford does not look to the bench for the green light on that play, so you can't say Maddon called it. He just said he supports Crawford on it. And, if he is that unpopular in TB, and eventually leaves, Maddon will have a multiple choice of teams who will want him.

[201] Maddon is so full of shit. Of course, he believes fervently in his own image of the go, go , go Rays.

The reason the Rays fanbase hates him is that over 162 games they see through his bullshit and the smoke he blows up his own rear end. There are times I'm pretty sure "the image of Joe Maddon" is what's paramount in his calculations.

I've said it before - Maddon wins because they have a lot of good players. I wanted them to punish him for bringing in Lance Cormier, and was annoyed at them for letting Cormier look so good.

[196] I watched Longoria hit that with the sound off. Granderson kept retreating, retreating, before it was clear to me that he had room. I definitely had a suddenly sick feeling watching the ball off his bat.

[199] And I have to believe the math says don't go. It was a shock laser strike, but you also have to add the percentage of the time you might get thrown out to your math in the initial equation.

[201] And that's a reasonable decision.

I disagree with the comparative risk/reward assessment, but, as they say ... that's basebaal.

[200] See 199.

If the difference between what I said in 199 is > than the chance of Golson throwing him out ... it was a bad play.

And ...If you don't know ... it's a bad play.

It was a bad play.

[199] Madden just said, that he wanted Crawford to take that risk. If the throw hits him and bounces away he can score. "Against Rivera we have to take risks"

[198] How often does Mo hit a batter with the bases loaded? I think Crawford did the right thing. A wild pitch isn't the only thing that could've scored him from third; even an infield single would've plated him. His only fault was that he didn't know what Golson was packing out there.

[197] I suppose the answer is ... what's the percentage of hits that Crawford *wouldn't* score from 2nd with 2 outs on vs those he would if was on 3rd + the chances of a WP/PB/Balk scoring him from 3rd as well.

I'm not sure of that answer (mathmatically), but generally speaking, if that's the case, why, Why, WHY risk it?

[195] Absolutely.

What does being on 3rd (rather than 2nd) gain him with 2 out?

How often does Mo throw a wild pitch?

Wow... I just finished watching the game. First Posada's blast, and then Golson! I actually don't think that was that bad a play by Crawford. Sure, it's a cardinal sin and all, but did anyone in the entire park, anyone watching, actually expect Golson to come up with a laser like that? That was a one-in-a-million play, and Crawford just had the misfortune of getting caught up in it.

Damn, first place feels good.

That was some last inning. Longoria was a hair off on the bat for a walk off two run homer. Mo looked as nervous as Joe G. felt., Crawford out at third. 99.5% of the time, he makes it, was it a mistake for him to tag?

What on earth was Crawford thinking? How do you make that mistake the day after Gardner's bone-headed play?

That throw was amazing. As a former outfielder, that kind of throw sends a shiver up my spine.

I guess I'll take people's word that leaving Nova in wasn't crazy. I skipped the first seven innings, and for once, checked in on the good part of the night. Looking at the play by play, it sure looked like there was a spot at 6-3 where I would have brought in Robertson and said dammit, this shit stops now. Particularly after saving everyone for this game. But only if you actually, you know, want to win the division. Which I don't give a fig about for reasons of hanging meaningless banners, but because I think any opponent is going to be tough as heck, and YS is a big advantage in the PS. YS in the PS, I like that.

But it sounds like watching it live it didn't seem like a terrible move.

I'm glad tonight worked out. When Crawford reached, I was ready to go apoplectic again.

That throw was amazing. As a former outfielder, that kind of throw sends a shiver up my spine.

I guess I’ll take people’s word that leaving Nova in wasn’t crazy. Which I don’t give a fig about for reasons of hanging meaningless banners, but because I think any opponent is going to be tough as heck, and YS is a big advantage in the PS. YS in the PS, I like that.

But it sounds like watching it live it didn’t seem like a terrible move.

I’m glad tonight worked out. When Crawford reached, I was ready to go apoplectic again.
