[114] I'm pretty sure the tradition is due to the fact that early managers were often players, too.

Connie Mack wore a suit when he managed.

Magic number to clinch the PS is NINE.
ARod one away from Sosa (at 609).
Hopes he passes him this year.

Nice win. Arod is hard to love, but he's the only one you want up in that situation. This season has been a brutal one to watch, yet the Yankees still have the best record in the MLB.

Here's to Alex:

I know probably everyone's run off, but i have a question. Looking at Earl Weaver, he just kind of looks silly in his uniform. Where did the tradition of managers wearing uniforms in baseball start? Can you imagine a football or basketball coach doing that?

Argh, see, E.E., now Yamaico Navarro, batting .074 (seriously), drives in a run, and Dan Nava doubles in Navarro. The tying run comes to the plate in the person of Victor Martinez. With Beltre and Papi to follow, if necessary. Did Scott Downs suck when we played the Jays?

Thank you Alex ... that one was HUGE.

(we won't mention the 3rd strike you got away with taking on the pitch before)

[96] please don't take offense to that, I just remember thinking it was big during the game. I knew he'd pitched the last two nights. I checked his game log and, sure enough, he'd pitched in Toronto that Sunday. BUT in those three games he had a total of 28 pitches, IIRC; however, he still had to warm up, etc. I just thought it was remarkable that he pitched for the 4th day and I thought we were going to get him

And we almost did. He threw 24 pitches total and Jeter, Teix and Cano all had decent AB's before Arod K'd. I guess the story line is that Girardi wouldn't do that but Maddon would. Personally I think Maddon's an idiot and Sori will get hurt; and he'll regret it.

[96] Soriano pitching on 4 days rest in the 9th for the first time this year. I don't think that was insignificant -- Maddon went for the throat.
