[5] Thanks. I forgot about Dr. Jobe. If he pioneered it, then he should go in the HoF.

[4] i think dr. frank jobe was the guy who 'invented' the surgery and performed it on john. i'm pretty sure he still does 'em - out in LA (halos, maybe) - but is not as prominent as andrews.

guidry isn't a hall of famer, but i've always loved that guy. he'd give a great induction speech!

andy - please come back!!!

Of the three, Tommy John has the most plausible case, as he was a pioneer for the elbow surgery. And Dr. James Andrews should be in for it as well.

I think not putting The Boss in during his life is punishment enough.

Martin really didn't contribute much beyond his record as a manager. Also, the HoF does consider personal conduct, which would be a setback for Martin.

I don't know if the HoF still has a provision for counting an individual's lifetime contribution to the game, but if so, one could make the case that Martin deserves entry under this condition.

Uh-oh, Bruce; you might not like what the Peanut Gallery has been saying about De La... and as far as the two outfielders, I'm cool with having one or the other if it happens, but I don't suspect it's likely to happen with Crawford given that the Angels are targeting him and have the resources to compete on a long-term financial basis:

Moreno: "You want six years? You got six years, just don't go to the Yankees"

Cashman: "You want six years? You got six years, just take your legs on the next flight to Anaheim..."

Werth would be more worthy of consideration were he Grandy's age, but given that he's not, it's safe to say they would likely only consider him as protection in the lineup for a perhaps infirm Alex Rodriguez, for which they are not going to spend stoopid-money on him.

Given what they're paying or likely will pay the entire infield and the SPs, not to mention a couple of relievers, I would believe they are looking at the outfield as a way to contain costs in one way or another.
