Yup, my bad. That said, I don't disagree with The Hawk not being thrilled about this one.

[7] I think you're commenting on [5] -- unless this is a cryptic appeal for Scorsese to remake Better off Dead.

6) I agree on one hand--I prefer their original scripts--but on the other, how much original material can we rightfully expect over a career? I love to harp on Scorsese but if he never made another movie again, his greatness is secured.

Kim Darby cameo FAIL, apparently, unless it's uncredited.

When are they going to wise up and start checking with me before they finish these things?

That's fine; I everything needn't be an exact replica for me to call bullshit. I'm just saying, would they be making this movie if the other didn't exist? I doubt it. Anyway their well has run dry to an extent. Now they're either adapting books, remaking old movies or both, or making mediocre original stories. It's too bad.

Well, the original movie departs from the novel big time. Couple of very Coen-bros like dark twists in the novel that were not in the John Wayne movie.

I hate when people try to spin something like this as "not a remake but a different adaptation of the novel".

My only problem is that the material is so suited to the Coen sensibility that it might be a little boring. I'm greedy, I suppose and want great artists to keep surprising us. I wasn't a big fan of "No Country," though I admired it. I'm sure it will be satisfying.

Thought you would get around to this since Joel and Ethan directed this remake. I read the novel years ago and loved it. Appreciate as always your deeper coverage of Portis. The original movie was great. We can't wait to see the new one. My chief wonder is how will the Dude stand up to John Wayne in comparison.
