Please come back Andy. Pretty please with whipped cream and a cherry on top.

Tampa may be a bit weaker without Crawford, but Boston will be better and I'm not going to misunderestimate Toronto. And Showalter will have the Orioles playing better too.

Yankees have:
CC
Hughes
A.J. (good or bad one)
Um, er, ah,
Mitre?
Nova?
????

Two cherries on top Andy.

[9] Do they? They lost most of the bullpen and the rotation wasn't great in 2010. Shields made AJ Burnett look like Roy Halladay, and Niemann and Davis both struggled in the second half and ended up below league average. Even Garza barely finished with an ERA+ over 100. Tampa's rotation is heavily dependent on Price.

[4] The Red Sox binge may have strengthened their chances in the AL East, but it has also made it easier for the Yankees to win the WC (especially with Lee and Werth going/staying in the NL). If the Yankees can get in the playoffs, a healthy CC could be enough with just a little help from Hughes and Burnett (and certainly Andy if he returned).

As things stand, I think 90-92 looks like the WC number.

[2] The comments from Yankees brass are a lot different than this time in 2008.

I don't think the significance of not getting Lee has been fully appreciated. That turn of events has made Pettitte an absolute necessity, even though he isn't likely to throw much more than 160-170 innings. If he pitched anything like last season, that would be more than enough to hold down the fort until either a midseason deal is made or AJ Burnett, Nova or someone proves they can be productive. Without him, however, there will be a huge void that takes the Yankees from at least WC favorites to one of pack of viable contenders.

sing it wit'cha Sliced, Temptations stylee (or Jagger if that's yer preference)

I know you wanna be a retiree,
But I refuse to let you go
If I have to beg and plead for your veteranocity,
I don't mind coz' you mean that much to me

Ain't too proud to beg, sweet Andy
Please don't leave me Pett, don't you go
Ain't to proud to plead, Andy, baby
Please don't leave us, Pett don't you go

Now ya heard Brian Cashman,
Is Cash the man, with the Steinbros' checkbook on his side
And if they have to cry to keep you,
They don't mind weepin' if it'll keep you in pinstripes

Ain't to proud to beg, sweet Andy
Please don't leave us Pett, don't you go
Ain't to proud to plead, Andy, Andy
Please don't leave us Pett, don't you go

If Cash has to sleep on your doorstep (with Mitre)
All night and day just to keep you from walkin' away (like Cliff Lee)
Let your friends laugh (not Clemens), even this we can stand
Coz we need to keep you, and we've got no other plan!

Ain't too proud to beg, sweet Andy'
Please don't leave us Pett don't you go
Ain't to proud to plead, Andy, Andy
Please don't leave us Pett, don't you go

Now we've gotta hole so deep at the top of the rotation
And each day it grows more and more
We're not ashamed to come and plead to you Andy
If pleadin' makes us as pathetic as the stupid Red Sox Nation

Ain't too proud to beg, you know it sweet Andy
Please don't leave us Pett, don't you go
Ain't to proud to plead, Andy, Andy
Please don't leave us Pett, don't you go
Andy, Andy, Andy, Andy (sweet darling)

How many wins will it take to get a berth in the tourney? If they get there, could they win it?

But really depends on what kind of season the Rays & Sox put together.

[2] Like I said, Pettitte is probably the closest to a respectable number two pitcher this team can throw out there. The idea of him not coming back is kind of horrifying.
