[8] who knows though. Maybe he'll make it. He's young and hope springs eternal, right? Think about all the independent league guys, or guys in the Mexican leagues who've made it. Maybe sugar will make it, but that's what I like about the ending. He's happy, his dreams have apparently changed but I felt he still had a chance.

i'm glad he ended the movie with a smile on his face, and the ending was not incredibly sad. but watching potential wasted so egresiously has a depressing component for me. i want my heroes to leave it all out there, make every effort to succeed and this kid did not do that.

I actually found the ending of this movie to be extremely uplifting, and, more than any other movie I can think of, proud of the country that I live in. The story of the immigrant discovering a true home for himself in "The Land of Opportunity", even if his grandiose (?) dreams remain unfulfilled is something that is easy to find comfort in. In how many other places would this have been possible?

Really liked this movie. A know a bunch of the cats who worked on it, so I was well aware of it before they even shot.

The steadicam from behind as he walks through the casino is one of my favorites in recent memory.

Loved the movie, loved the ending if only because it was so anti-climactic and yet hopeful. I kind of like the scene where he sees Yankee stadium (where he had talked about pitching before) from the subway and knows he'll never play there, but still doesn't seem melancholy.

[3, 1] I found it to be a happy ending, I think as the movie goes on he begins to realize that baseball really isn't the most important thing in the world to him, just finding his place in the world and being happy is. so I definitely think its a "happy" ending, just not a Hollywood one (which would've been Sugar pitching a perfect game in Game 7 of the World Series at Yankee Stadium)

[1] Spoiler alert!:

True, but at the same time, he looked happy - he found a community with that carpenter and his coworker and Jorge, and a group of guys who had gone through the same things he had... it wasn't a happy ending, but it wasn't despairing either, I thought. He was making a life for himself.

Also enjoyed this movie Emma. For me, going from pitching professional baseball down to the sand lots in one shot is pretty depressing though.

I also remember the actual baseball being pretty not great. Was that the case? Like the stud pitcher was clearly just lobbing it in there?
