Man, stardust is just one of those tunes that make me feel so curiously good for listening to such a subdued, doleful song. And I love that there are so many tremendous renditions by an array of musicians. Gotta say, I think Coltrane's version is my favorite though.

man, stardust is one of my three favorite songs (along with september song and lush life). i grew up listening to ben webster. my dad loved him. i love him. nothing like a little sad, wistful, melancholy music.

Ben Webster's version is moodier and (dare I say it again) wistful, while Lester Young's is calm and somewhat reserved. Also, the images flashing behind both sort of imply their inspiration and perhaps their intent, for what that's worth.
