I was sorry to learn of Greg Goossen's passing, but your story was a nice tribute to a geniunely good guy! I grew up hanging around a minor league ballpark in Auburn, NY and my buddies and I got to know Greg during his highly productive 1965 season and started a fan club in his honor. He was always very generous with his time and was a great ambassador for his team and baseball. RIP Greg.

I was turned off on the plight of the career minor leaguer in the mid 2000s, when a significant portion of the online Yankee fan community decided that the reason people like Mitch Jones, Andy Phillips and Colter Bean were 30 years old and in AAA was because Joe Torre was a evil supervillain who used his powers of mind control to prevent not only Brian Cashman from promoting these men, but also apparently the other 29 teams from having any interest at all.

As it turns out, Phillips couldn't hit a breaking ball, Bean was big and fat and had no control, and I have no idea what Mitch Jones is doing any more. Sometimes the old baseball men really do know their baseball.

I'm impressed with Greg Goossen's story; it reminds you that sometimes the things you do first are not the things you do best.
