[18] Send them to Osaka right away. I wouldn’t trust them either – they are dealing with too much right now and have a tendency to gloss things over. I’m relieved to hear that they are accepting help from foreign nations this time – as opposed to their response in the Kobe quake. Keep your family safe. Stock up on supplies. You may be living on kanzume for awhile! Gambate!

[19] Thanks Sliced! Interesting for this Brooklyn boy to think of Japan as “my country” but after 12+ years in total I guess it is. I certainly don’t get it when people start telling me to come “home”..Home is here! That goes double for Boatzilla, right??

Neighborhood here in Tokyo was pretty normal for a Sunday afternoon, though the shops were much emptier than usual..empty bread shelves, stock low of bottled water and drinks..we’re stocking up a lot as some big aftershocks are being forecast…as to the nuclear plant in Fukushima..nothing to do but wait and see what happens..200km away would be safe enough I hope..

Nice to read all the love from the Banter family. The aftershocks are nerve-wracking but it’s all ok here in Tokyo. I personally have zero trust in the J government’s proclamations about the Fukushima nuclear power plant though..seriously considering sending the fam down to Osaka for a while till things cool down.

Boat, try and chat with you later today if DoCoMo service is back up. Softbank came back to me yesterday morning.

Glad to hear all are okay. This is devastating. The only thing I can say is ‘gambaranakerbanarimasen.’ After a year in Japan and 15 years in Hawaii all I can say is I get it, and I’m with you.

[7] Not sure about Kei, but there is a lot of devastation up in Tohoku: power outages….uh-oh here’s another aftershock….I swear ever time I get on the keyboard. Check out Twitter for some accurate and timely news. But the Miyagi- and Iwate-ken areas have been hit hard. It’s a full scale disaster up there.

Boatzilla, I’m delighted that your earthquake pix are so unexciting!
Glad both you guys were only… shaken up.
My son is in Australia, and I was a little anxious in the morning, but the tsunami apparently didn’t affect them at all.

I hear Kei Igawa couldn’t communicate with his family, northern inland Japan. Is there any further news on that?

[4] We’re REALLY lucky..coastal towns in Miyagi-ken and Iwate-ken have just been wiped out..even inland one places looked like it was carpet bombed..we’ve got some Iwate-friends here in town, they’ll be stuck here awhile methinks..

[1] Dude you had some drama. Sorry to hear that. Our biggest worry was making sure Baba (granny), who is 81, got home. She went out for lunch at 11:00 and got home at midnight….3 buses and some walking later…..ooops there’s another aftershock….the hits just keep on comin’. We are approaching 40 aftershocks.

Folks ,I posted some very rushed, very poor photos of the spillage in our place. Mostly files, books, CDs and stuff on shelves. Two Macs went down, but no damage. Have not been in to my office yet.

[1] Hey thelarmis, Boatzilla and I and the family are all ok. Crazy night and still aftershocks all day today making people a little jumpy. But Tokyo was spared the worst, the north-east coast has just been destroyed…right now still trying to clean up my apartment, which was completely trashed during the quake..but it’s all just stuff, much worse was being out of touch with Mrs. Jazz and the little ones for an hour or so after the quake..they were stuck on the 45th floor skydeck of a skyscraper, had to eventually walk all the way down..Will be cleaning rest of the weekend and following the news here, still a lot of people unaccounted for up north..
