		<description>Yeah they can be dangerous but most of them come with a top that you place over the object that you are slicing and thAt really works. I have a cheap one that I bought in Chinatown but the oxo is probabaly a great buy. Then agAin a good cuisinart would do the trick too. I just never like dealing with washing the damn thing, and most of the time I just use a kitchen knife.</description>

As far as I&#039;m concerned, they&#039;ve been supplanted by the blade disk of a food processor. I&#039;m sure you can get somewhat finer control with a mandolin, but it&#039;s not even close to worth the extra trouble + risk of finger slicing. My Cuisinart and my chef&#039;s knife handle everything between them.</description>
