[8] ... it's all about respect for the craft. It's one thing to have independence going and train your brain to just think of matching your actions into a finite rhythmic pattern, it's another to have like, 8 screens open and be able to push information out to each, switching your brain from one focus to another, and not lose any ground on deadline. Having done both, I can say honestly, it's easier to play a jazz groove at MM 150 than it is to write on deadline.

I love the feeds of ex-players for a window onto their strange little heads. Lou Merloni is legit hilarious, as is any member of the Guillen family...Steve Karsay just reminds you of that kid whose dad bought him a brand new Lexus on his 16th birthday and listened to Limp Bizkit in high school

I'm early 21st century old school. I watch or listen to pretty much every game, and check in here, and a few other websites (lohud, NY newspapers, etc) for "breaking news" - a term I use very loosely when it comes to sports.

I couldn't be bothered to follow any writers, or sports news entities on the social media sites. I don't need 15 outlets telling me the same thing at the same time.
As much as I'm obsessed with the Yankees, I can wait for the smoke to clear, and read an article online. I don't need silly little bursts of Yankee news.

What I find odd, though, is that some beat writers tweet a play by play account of the game. I wonder who reads that.

I follow all the major Yankee beat writers, any beat writer for another team I can find, all the players and people from the major blogs. You really do get a ton of info.

[1] I do that too, but only for "big" stories.

[0] I think Twitter is fascinating, but I think the display interface needs work. There's too much information, and to me, its not organized in an easy way to follow (unless you search for a specific hashtag).

Its very hard for me to stay logged on to Twitter and to be constantly bombarded with tweets when I'm working. Its just too distracting in terms of getting work done. I can't even use it as a momentary diversion, because it takes forever to piece a conversation that I start reading in the middle back to its beginning. Similarly, if I am following a conversation from the start but then lose track of it (say I have to go to a meeting), it takes forever go back and piece it together from where I left off. Too much work, not enough reward.

Contrast that with a post here on the Banter, where I might be late to the conversation, but its all here, easy to find. If I have to jump out in the middle of a conversation, I can easily find where I left off.

To me, Twitter works best when you're always in the tweet-stream. I have a hard time finding the time to do that, and so I almost never log in anymore.

It's funny, when a sports news breaks now, I never go to a website but directly to twitter.
