Seldom do you see this in a ballgame, but to me, the Oriole miscues in the 11th clearly show that the Camden Yards crew has a long way to go, and may never get there with the core they currently have.

The Yankees demonstrated that they are better than the O's and, like I say, you seldom see it so clearly in a single game. The Orioles bested our best guy (although the leadoff walk looked to me, and to Mo, like a leadoff called-strike-three). Okay, it happens.

So the Yanks display some solid defense in the infield and the outfield, on more than one occasion, and a bullpen deep enough beyond the closer to close out ball games.

I do think it's going to be a long, harsh summer in Baltimore, and I feel bad for my erstwhile guy, Buck Showalter.

Man, that game had LOSS written all over it. When ARod hit that 'Sac Fly', the O's announcer said "... and that will get him Home". I was stunned watching Jeter get thrown out at the plate.

I have noticed 2 things over the years.... I don't know if there's anything to it.
1) When we get an early lead, even a modest one, the offense seems to sit back.
2) When we are behind, even if the O has been totally helpless for 8 innings, we seem to be able to rally in the 9th, come close, but leave the tying run on base.

Anyone else feel that way?
And what's up with Joba? I hate to talk about 'mental makeup', but he seems to lack it. He had such great stuff, but now I have little faith in him. I think his early fame ruined him. If some other team with give us any value, I think he should be traded.

Good write-up, Hank. Although

Boone Logan retired the Birds quickly in the bottom of the eleventh, allowing the Yanks to strike just as quickly in the top of the twelfth.

No, bottom of the tenth, and then top of the eleventh. (There was no twelfth.)
