Solid body of work. I'll include Prince of Tides, highly re-watchable. Sadly, he's neither sane nor a hollywood family so I doubt he's got a Jeff Bridges run in him.

48 Hours. Walter Hill. Too Good.

He interviewed himself a year or so ago and I saw it on IFC, and he is out of his mind. He is now stranger than Busey (2), and I am sure he still has quite a bit of talent.

I was in Venice, CA a few years ago at the Hare Krishna parade and he came wheeling along on an adult sized tricycle. He had his mouth open and was obviously on something, it was sad as this man who was one of the most handsome when he broke into acting now was pale as snow and looked lobotomized. He had a pair of bedroom slippers on and was wearing a straw hat. I took a few pictures of him and he looks better in the pics than he did live.

He was great in a string of tough cop movies in the late 90's. Playing bad guys and guys who were good with a bad side. He has a real darkside to his personality and then comes across.

"Who'll Stop the Rain," is another great Nolte performance. It's based on Robert Stone's great novel "Dog Soldiers." The DVD of it has miserable video quality.

I also liked him a lot in "The Good Thief," which was a remake of Jean-Pierre Melville's great "Bob le Flambeur."

I even like "The Deep."

A younger Nolte might have been perfect casting to play John D. MacDonald's Travis McGee character.
