[2] Interesting question who actually makes those roster decisions. I have little doubt that it's done by consensus, but who has the final call? Probably Girardi can ask for specific guys, but if it's about arbitration strategy then I would think that's Cashman's doing.

Loved the Great American Baseball Card Flipping, Trading and Bubble Gum Book bit - that's a favorite of mine.

Chyll, Sanit's 50-game suspension was LAST year.

[1] But does Cashman make the final decision on roster call-ups? I thought that was Girardi's call, being that he should know what they need. It's likely an arbitration clock thing, which seems to cause more trouble than it's worth.

Bruce, I had read they sent Pena down yesterday for Sanit; odd that they brought him up since he was summarily suspended for 50 games for violating the minor league drug policy. Is he so good that they need to circumvent that by bringing him up, or was it just a coincidence of roster flux? It doesn't look kosher to me.

And one more thought, there seems to be a team-wide malaise in terms of lack of focus from this team. It's pretty early in the season to lose sight of what your goals are, so I wonder if there's not something more disruptive behind the scenes that's affecting the players. Joe will never say anything, so it's all more speculation.

Completely agree on Vazquez and Cervelli. Seems like the blame for Vazquez/Pena can be squarely placed on Cashman's shoulders. I'm actually more interested in the Cervelli situation. As you point out, the regression is curious. Seems to be mental. I think he has gotten too comfortable, but whatever it is it definitely needs fixin.
