[6] You know far more about that stuff than I do, William, so I'll defer to you.

[5] Yes, but not Jeter at DH full time - Jeter as a multi-position super sub and sometime DH.

[2] [3] Don't be so sure that consistent, double digit returns are so rare at the level of investing we're talking about. Just because the Wilpons were doing well with Madoff doesn't mean they were complicit in his scam.

Eh, just a NY shitstorm. There'll be some shoveling to do, but it'll blow over, and the schools will reopen tomorrow.

Having grown up in Flushing, the Mets have a special place in my heart. I feel bad for anybody associated with them these days. Everybody holding their noses with one hand, pointing at who's to blame with the other. Big city shitstorm. Opening the window only makes it worse.

It would smell a lot worse around here had the Red Sox not skinned their knees and chins stumbling out of the gate.

[2] "Let's see, he gets involved with someone who always brings double digit returns, which should be a red flag. No one honest will consistently bring double digit returns"

That's the part I can't get over. I know almost nothing about investing, but even I know that consistent double digit returns are bogus. How could a sophisticated business man, which Wilpon certainly is, not know this?

Re Wilpon's comments, yawn (except for one). He spoke honestly, and he's not the first person to say or think any of those things. I admire him not going the Jeter cliche route - even if Pelfrey's comment was probably dead on right. As long as he pays, free agents will go to the Mets.

The one interesting thing he said is that he's not paying Reyes. If he sticks to that, HALLELUIAH! I will thoroughly enjoy watching Reyes in pinstripes.

Is Wilpon a good businessman? Let's see, he gets involved with someone who always brings double digit returns, which should be a red flag. No one honest will consistently bring double digit returns, there are good and bad cycles in business. And now he's downgrading his assets/employees? Yes he has been successful, but it looks like he's made some serious blunders as well.

i have to assume that the yankees brass greatly appreciates the mets.
regardless of the yankees missteps there really is always the mets.

i think the one tenet wilpon might try to follow is don't be an asshole. cashman should probably get in line with it too.
even though most of what wilpon said was accurate there was just no need to say it.
it's not as if he is impeccable. isn't he supposed to be a businessman? cause no matter what his role is with madoff it isn't good.
pelfrey's quip is pretty funny.
