Vermonters really make the most out of what nature offers. (I'm fond of the Cook's Illustrated editor Christopher Kimball, even though, or maybe because, he's so dorky.) I like strawberry rhubarb jam, but my problem is always that I like strawberries much more than I like anything you can make out of them. Especially this time of year. They are sublime, ambrosiac, elysian, heavenly. And the fact that in every basket there are a couple of strawbs that are lousy just adds to the perfection of the whole experience.
