Interesting interview...have really enjoyed his work for several years. About 10 years ago, I was in London for a little over a month and hooked up with a group of locals that meet weekly to play softball and then talk baseball in a pub. It was fascinating to see how they viewed the game (their main preoccupation was whether Pete Rose should be in the hall of fame). At the time, two ESPN games were simulcast on Channel 5 in London, but they aired around midnight. When ESPN would go to commercial, Ch. 5 would go to the studio, which featured a Canadian "expert" and a British host. I can still hear the host pronouncing Ricky Bottalico as Bot-a-lick-o.

Nope, never expected to see Sid James, Kenneth Williams, Hattie Jacques, Frankie Howerd, nor indeed Barbara Windsor's "them" featured in a Bronx Banter article.

Fantastic interview. What great insights. [3] I also love his last answer. Sums up exactly how I feel, except the Ty Cobb part.

First baseball book I ever read was about Ty Cobb, so he was my boyhood hero. I didn't here about the bad stuff until I was in my 30s.
