Good stuff as always William. While the 2009 team may have spoiled us with walk-offs, anyone wondering why the Yankees have had relatively few this season need look no further than the pitching, which is the best it's been in years -- particularly the bullpen (see my attempt at out-Williaming William).

Fewer runs allowed by the starters along with less blown leads late in games = fewer opportunities for walk-offs.

[1] That was 9/26/1981 versus Tim Stoddard, against whom Murcer had two walk-offs (the other coming on 4/20/1980).

I don't recall the year, 81-82? but I'll never forget being at the Stadium when Bobby Murcer hit a game-ending homer over the right centerfield fence against the Orioles. What I remember most is that I was there with my dad and my brother. We were in the upper deck behind home plate and there were two guys next to us who were drunk. They piled their empty beer cups next to them and I remember how high they went, it was as if they'd each had a dozen beers. They'd made me nervous during the game but when Murcer came to bat, they were yelling "Bob-by, Bob-by" and it was exciting. My heart was thumping.
