[4],[7] I was thinking the same thing. I can see a pitcher getting pissed off when a hitter stands and admires a home run or flips the bat like Papi. Next thing you know, someone will get mad when a guy walks across the mound.

Thanks for the fantastic recap, Frankie Brains is classic.

The Sox lead the league in hit batsmen and also lead the league in hitting Yankee players. They try to make it look like the are responding to an individual indiscretion but in reality this has been their m.o. for years.

"Smoke signals bellowing from his ears"...That was great Hank! What about Cano's great catch in the 5th when you just knew Crawford was gonna tie the game up??? Besides Frankie Brains monster homer, I think that catch was psychologically symbolic for the Bombers. It said to the whole team "Hey, We can beat these guys!"

I don't have a problem with the Sox taking umbrage to Cervelli's antics (he has admitted that he needs to "tone it down" a little) and if they want to give us an insurance run like that every game I could live with that as well. But, they need to remove the "flipped bat" from Big Papi's eye before they worry about a speck in Cervelli's eye.

What with Manny et al. standing at home plate admiring their home runs, the Red Sox have no beef with a simple hand clap by someone who hits a dinger once in a blue moon. Cheap, classless punks.

I really don't think I'm being biased when I say Cervelli's clap seemed relatively tame. Batters styling as the ball leaves the park is often much more obnoxious.

And hey leave the guy's "anemic" bat alone! Sure he has no power but last season when he played quite a bit he hit .271 with a .359 OBP. Plus he has a pretty good record of getting the big hit. I'll bet he would be a fine everyday catcher for most teams and honestly I wouldn't mind him being that for the Yanks. He's a good player.

I would just love it if the Yanks had a couple of guys who didn't mind getting tossed if their guy was thrown at or hit; it happens way too often and there's just no retaliation. Where's the fire-breather who would go out and eat the next batter or man who reaches base? I hate this timid win shyt, especially against mouth-breathers who make up their own rules along the way...

Great report, Hank. You really captured the mood of the game.

I agree (despite the typo) with your take on "the clap." Jeter does it after every base hit, but if Cervelli does it on home plate after a home run, it's not OK. Huh?

Are we (we = the players) supposed to feel sorry for the pitcher we just beat? Does that mean we can't celebrate a grand slam, because the pitcher must feel real awful about giving 4 runs with one pitch?

I've said this before, I hate the antics that go on in the NFL after every single play. But baseball is a pretty calm game, a little clapping and fist pumping now and then make it just a little more colorful and fun to watch.
